This design is the third and final release in the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence Series. Each of the new designs is found on the obverse field, replacing the John Mercanti design for the first time ever in this collection. The designs follow the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence with images reflective of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

On the obverse of the 2020-W Proof American Platinum Eagle Coin is a new design from Justin Kunz. In this new design, Liberty is featured in an agrarian setting with the fruits of her harvest in her right hand. Nearby, a young girl playfully chases down a butterfly. While the national motto and popular phrase E Pluribus Unum are featured on this side, the primary inscription of note is the stylized word Happiness written as it would have been written on the Declaration of Independence.

The reverse face of the 2020 Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins comes with a new design that is common across the three-coin release of the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence. In this design, the American bald eagle is shown flying into the field with its wings spread out as it clutches an olive branch in its talons.
