Product Details

The Austrian Gold Philharmonic coin series is one of the many robust gold bullion coin collections available to investors. This series debuted in 1989 and launched with two weights. In addition to the standard 1 oz gold coin, the Austrian Mint took the unusual step of introducing the 1/4 oz fractional coin first. The 1/2 oz gold option wasnt issued until 1994. Right now, 2020 1/2 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins are available to purchase online from Alpha Bullion.

Austrian Gold Philharmonic coins are the only major bullion coin issued in the Euro currency on the European continent. The series debuted before the adoption of the Euro and from 1989 to 2001, all coins in this series had a face value listed in the old Austrian Schilling. At that time, the 1/2 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic had a value of 1,000 Austrian Schillings (ATS).

On the obverse of all 2020 1/2 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins is the image of the Great Pipe Organ. This fixed musical instrument is built into the Musikverein, the concert hall in which the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performs. It is located in the Innere Stadt neighborhood of Vienna.

The reverse side of 2020 Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins comes with a design of musical instruments. Though this doesnt represent every instrument used by the Philharmonic, it does represent some of the more common instruments used by members of the orchestra. Included in the design are four violins, a bassoon, a harp, a French horn, and a cello.

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is the inspiration for this series. A national treasure in Austria, the orchestra was formally founded in 1842 in the city of Vienna, the national capital of Austria.
